Jose

Jose comes from a family of five children. His parents are small farmers that work jobs that are not consistent. They work in the fields for different people or take whatever jobs they can find to make money. Jose’s life was not easy growing up. He was surrounded by insecurities and violence.

However, at the age of 10 he became sponsored through Matsiko where he received school supplies, uniforms, food and clothing. The support of Matsiko and his sponsor allowed him to go to school to get an education. He graduated high school at the very top of his class and decided to apply to the National University of San Agustin, a very prestigious university. He was one of 5,000 applicants and was chosen for one of the 12 spots that were available. He chose to study Industrial Engineering, a 5 year degree, and is set to graduate this year.

Throughout his educational journey Jose has had the support of Matsiko and his sponsor. He is so grateful for their support and works very hard to make them proud. Matsiko gave Jose hope for a better future when his environment offered him none.

His whole family is extremely proud of him and all his hard work. He will now be able to have a career that will help him support himself as well as his family helping to break the cycle of poverty he was born into.
