Lucio • Peru

With a blind mother and no father, Lucio has supported his family for as long as he can remember. Because of severe desperation and the lack of opportunity for her children, Lucio’s mother sold his two younger sisters, believing that these traffickers would provide the girls with an education, so that they could better themselves in life.

The promises to the girls ended up being false and grave actions were placed upon them. One of Lucio’s sisters, Alicia, was able to get free from her captor and return back to her family. As difficult as life was for Lucio and his family at that time, it was nothing compared to what Alicia had experienced while trafficked. Soon after, Lucio and Alicia received sponsorship through Matsiko and they were extremely happy.

Luico and Alicia joined the Matsiko World Orphan Choir, and were invited to tour the US on two different tours. Receiving encouragement and support through the sponsorship program, Lucio began to excel in  school, while Alicia climbed to the top of her class.

Alicia continues to work through her issues of being trafficked, and is becoming stronger and less bitter in the process. A few years ago, Lucio asked Matsiko to help find his other sister and try to return her to the family. Never forgetting her, and always hoping to find her, Lucio never gave up the hope of her retrieval.

Through the help of Matsiko, Lucio’s sister was found and returned to her family!

Now she too has received a sponsor through Matsiko’s sponsorship program and she also dreams of joining the Matsiko Peru choir and one day too even touring the USA, like her older brother and sister.

Lucio and his sisters are doing very well now. Because of their ability to speak English well, they work at a five-star hotel as tour guides for the guests when their time is available, and they make good support for their family in the process.

Now Lucio is in his third year at the university in Arequipa, Peru majoring in business administration. Lucio is sharp in business and knows how to get what he wants. Lucio’s sister, Alicia, will also be attending the university in Peru and major in the field of public administration and tourism, which is a very big practice in Peru.

Lucio and his family are just one of the many examples of how sponsorship through Matsiko truly changes the lives of the children and their families forever. This is why sponsorship with Matsiko truly is: Hope through Education!
